Goodness this is almost identical to one I did almost a year ago... I love the long early morning shadows. richard
Richard Tugwell: I found it - quite a coincidence.
http://trimage.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Narb%27_park_%A3%21%3Bhash%A3%21%3B2_/ I guess this time of year you get that sort of scene. I can see form the series you did that the conditions were similar, although my park is maybe easier subject matter
Getting as negative with plane trees as you were with baby and bath water? What's the matter with you Richard? You're hopeless today LOL
Right. Now on to your photo. Is SPECTACULAR enough of a word? The WOW is fully there!!! Shadows, light, mmmh! The b&w with a slight sepia tone really works well. The only thing that doesn't quite work for me is the fact that the tree is a bit too centered. Obviously the point was to make the most of the shadow on the ground but...
Richard Tugwell: I'm in that sort of mood this week..... I kind of agree about the symmetry although the curvy sweep rescues it a bit. I'm more worried about the patch of light sky top left, the more I look at it. Also, I'm trying to remember why I toned it this way, rather than leaving it B+W. Compulsive knob twiddling. My normal stance would be that you only apply an effect if you have an idea in mind, so it looks like I failed myself. But it's interesting that you like it
Richard Tugwell: Me too
I question why a photographer of your quality uses the split sepia "gimmick". That's not meant in a nasty way. (Or is it in fact all sepia? In which case the photo is not really as good as it first appears.) Greyscale nice. Genuine sepia nice. But this one....???
Richard Tugwell: completely agree. No idea if it's sepia or not. As I said, compulsive knob twiddling in Lightroom with no clear purpose. Sticking to B+W in future
